Tutor/SI Leader Basic Requirements:

  • Have at least a 3.0 GPA
  • Earned a B or higher in the courses you prefer to support and/or in courses needing support
  • Must be open to
    • Supporting courses/subjects in demand in addition to specific courses,
      • Common subjects in demand: Accounting, Business Statistics, SPSS, Chemistry, Physics, Calculus I-III, and Statistics in the Major: OMG 320, PSY 230
    • OR must be available to support a designated SI or Embedded Tutoring section
  • Be enrolled in at least 6 CSUDH units while employed
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Have at least 10-20 hours per week of availability
  • Can commit to a set schedule for the semester which may include attending designated courses

Position Descriptions

  • Tutors work with students in groups on a first come first served basis. They provide learning strategies based on student questions and needs.
  • Embedded Tutors tutor both in center and in designated courses. They hold group sessions and provide learning strategies based on student questions and needs for designated courses.
  • Supplemental Instruction Leaders attend designated courses and then create weekly out of class sessions. Sessions are course specific and interactive, so students have an opportunity to review and apply course specific content while gaining study strategies to help them retain and further apply what they have learned from class.
